Frequently asked questions
What is a synthetic ice rink?
A synthetic ice rink is made of interlocking plastic panels. Each panel is engineered to fit tightly together with its neighbouring piece to providing a level surface with no visible joints or gaps. The material is designed in order that its super-smooth and that it provides an authentic and very safe skating experience.
How large is it?
We provide rinks in a wide range of sizes to suit your needs and the space available.
A typical rink size for a short-term hire would be between 10 and 12 metres square, or rectangular around 10 metres by 20 metres.
However we can supply rinks both smaller and larger than these sizes.
How many people can skate on it?
This also depends on the size and shape of the rink you choose.
A 12-metre square rink would accommodate up to 48 people at any one time.
A 10 metre by 20-metre rectangular rink would have room for up to 70. We recommend session times of about 25 minutes - in this way, over the course of a day, even a very modest rink can host a very large number of people.
Where will you put it?
Almost anywhere you want it!
The main stipulation is that the surface we put the rink on must be firm and level.
Tarmac or concrete is best; if your surface is rough then you will need to lay a simple butt-joined wooden floor before we arrive as a foundation for the rink.
How long does installation take?
This depends on the size you require.
A 10-metre square rink requires about three hours.
A 12-metre square rink requires about four hours.
For rinks larger than this it is safer to allow a whole day for installation.
How long can I have the rink for?
That’s up to you!
We can work with you to create the perfect short-term or long-term (more than 14 days) package.
What do I need to provide?
You need to ensure that you have enough space for the rink you wish to hire and that the surface is suitable.
We will also ask you to make sure that there is access to power and water. This is so the rink can be cleaned prior to use, and at the end of each day.
You will also need power for any additional items you wish to install such as lights and a sound system.
What else do you provide?
We always provide a full range of accessories to help you get the most out of hire. Naturally this includes skates.
We supply all the staff necessary to set up the rink and train you in its use, and we can provide staff to run the rink for you if you wish. Please see our LINK packages page for full details.
